Establishing Three Lines of Defense
The first line of defense is delay. Do not adopt the machine's answer the moment you receive it. First ask: how would I begin if I did not have it? The second line of defense is restatement. Force yourself to rephrase the machine's advice in your own words, and see whether you truly understand it. The third line of defense is accountability. Any judgment that ultimately affects other people, resources, institutions, and relationships must be signed by a human and borne by a human.
As long as these three lines of defense remain intact, it becomes much harder for tools to quietly usurp the role of the master mind.
- Mora: spatium unius propriae cogitationis saltem reserva. Delay: reserve at least one interval for independent thought.
- Repetitio: sine verbis machinae, catenam intellectus tui restitue. Restatement: without the machine's original words, rebuild your chain of understanding.
- Susceptio: omnis decisio magni momenti ad subjectum humanum redeat. Accountability: all high-impact decisions must return to the human agent of responsibility.
